The Feeling of Food

Branding and photography for farm-to-table food lab NRNR and a collaborative series of sense experiences in partnership with local farmers, producers and chef, Babis Tsamadias on the island of Naxos, GR.

One of the first steps to building a great relationship with food is knowing where it comes from. This is the concept at the heart of No Recipes, No Reservations.

Similar to Chadō and Kōdō ceremonies, the lab experience is centred around evocation and observation of a thematic feeling or memory — encouraging you to create and be inspired by what is presented before you. Each composition of flavour and scent distills the context and season within which it is grown or harvested but, as every participant has their own context, interpretations can wildly differ from person to person. Throughout the experience, Chef Tsamadias’ shares his extensive knowledge of local terroir, regional cooking methods, the sea and its jewels to lend background to each story laid on the table - highlighting the products of the Cyclades.

IMPACT

In addressing the act of consumption as an internal ideology that we cultivate and tend to — rather than an external issue — our aim is to continually explore a sensitive path when considering our diets. Instead of grasping constructs that lead us to view nutrition in extremes, (un)consciously slide into disordered eating or calorie-counting our consumption…perhaps the way to build a healthy relationship with our bodies and food is to (literally!) enter into a beautifully intimate and aware relationship with it.

Why do we crave what we do — when we do? Why do certain smells recall memory? Or certain tastes bring tears?

In between courses, you may be asked to reflect by drawing what you feel and taste with paint or engage in a period of automatic writing based on what has be inspired within you.

Upon listening to the context of how the products arrived at the table, perhaps you will be reminded of a journey or memory within your own life that you will be encouraged to share with others at the table.
